November is here, which means you are either deep into Thanksgiving or you have headed right to Christmas. I personally wait until Black Friday to break out the Christmas decorations. But I am the biggest believer that to become who you want to be next year you need to start planning in the months leading up to the new year.

That means my 2024 planning begins now. Before the holiday chaos ensues, I encourage you to take some time to journal about who you want to be one year from today. I break my journaling down into different aspects of my life. Here are some of the questions I ask myself:
1. What type of friend do I want to be this year and who do I want to spend my time with?
2.How do I want my business to grow and evolve? How do I want my clients to see me as their advisor?
3.What are my health goals for this year? Do I plan on doing another Tough Mudder?
4.What are my financial goals for the year- savings, investments, retirement?
5.How do I want to feel this time next year?
After I answer all of these questions in my journal, I take some time to step away. Whether it’s a day or a week, I use this break to see what feelings and thoughts come up. Do the goals I wrote about excite me? Does it feel like something is missing? Once I have a clear picture of what I want to accomplish over the next year my inner planner comes out. I always joke that I am good with homework and to-do lists. But I don’t know how I would achieve everything I want without it being mapped out.
Typically, I have a pretty good idea of what my goals are by the first week of November. From here I set aside a few hours one day to plan out how I am going to make those dreams a reality. In addition, I plan out what areas of my life I need to invest in and who I need to be working with throughout the year. With the growth of my financial planning practice this year I spent a lot of time at my desk. So, a big thing that I am focused on for 2024 is making sure I work with a chiropractor and massage therapist to support my overall health.
But here is the key to achieving my goals. I will start working on these professionals now. To set myself up for success I have already started researching chiropractors and talking to my insurance to see who is covered so I can schedule appointments for December. This way when I wake up on New Years Day, I’ve already started the process of working towards a healthier me. So, who do you need on your team or in what ways do you need to invest in yourself to set yourself up for success in 2024?
