Writing a book has always been on my bucket list. Maybe it’s because I’m such an avid reader myself. So, when Jessica Weaver, founder of The Wealth Boutique approached me about this book collaboration project back in August it was an easy yes.
And from there, we wrote a dang book.
What better way to dip your toe into the world of book writing and publishing than to do it surrounded by so many incredible women. I am one of 15 incredible ladies who came together to co-author Financial Trendsetters. We each sat down to write our own chapter with the central focus of shining a light on what it means to be a woman in the finance industry in today’s society.
Can I be honest with you? I laughed when Jess told me I only need to write one chapter. I thought it would be a cake walk.
Have you ever tried to get out everything you want to say to people in one chapter? Just 3,000-3,500 words to describe a huge part of your life. I wrote a majority of my chapter at a few different coffee shops. So much time was spent chugging coffee as I tried to pin down exactly which areas of my career I wanted to share with the world.
It went something like this… type endlessly, pause and process what I just wrote, realize what a rollercoaster ride I have been on, keep writing, consume more coffee. Repeat.
The processing of my story proved to be the most time consuming part. Hence the season I said multiple coffee shops. I have learned that it’s one thing to put words on a page but it’s another when you feel them so deeply.
My time in the financial services industry has been filled with two extremes. People that tried to tear me down and ruin my career. And people who inspire me, lift me up, and encourage me to do and be my best self. Part of processing my story is coming to terms with the fact that I needed all of these people to get to where I am now.
The naysayers and angry commentators will always fuel my fire. I am a person that if you tell me I can’t, I HAVE TO prove you wrong. But my biggest supporters are the reason for accomplishing all my goals and dreams.
